In the time when mobile phone companies are developing app oriented devices, Nokia is again trying to play its game. Nokia recently launched the new Asha 210 smartphone with a dedicated WhatsApp key. In fact, till now it is the only and the first phone to be launched with a dedicated WhatsApp key.
WhatsApp is available for all major OS like Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry and Symbian. But Nokia announced this week, the world’s first phone with a dedicated key for the world’s biggest Instant Messaging service WhatsApp. The Nokia Asha 210 is a low budget device priced at a mere $72.
WhatsApp is the world’s biggest Instant Messaging service which allows you to send SMS, images, audio and video messages to your phone contacts for free. The service is similar to BlackBerry Messenger but in terms of the user database it is far larger than BM(BlackBerry Messenger). BM holds a database of 60 million users but WhatsApp consists of more than 200 million monthly users. The service has grown up with a remarkable amount of user. Growing from 1 billion messages per day in October 2011, the company handles more than 10 billion messages per day as of August, 2012.
Many companies has tried to purchase WhatsApp Inc. Last year, there it was rumored that Facebook is trying to acquire the online messaging service. But recently Google is trying to purchase the company with a significant amount of $1 billion.
As a part of the new contract between Nokia and WhatsApp, the service will be free of any charge. However, generally WhatsApp charges a user for $0.99 for each year after the first. In the new Nokia Asha 210, you just have to hold down the button in the physical QWERTY keyboard to access the service.
After a phone with a dedicated Facebook key, the Asha 210 is a just another device with a dedicated physical Social button. And specially launched for the customers who wants to spend less on mobile.
The Nokia Asha 210 comes in many colors including yellow, cyan and magenta. The phone runs on Nokia’s series 40 operating system.
